“My thought is just Everton, no more than that,” the boss said in his prematch press conference. “11 months working for Premier League, I don’t want to be distracted for Real Madrid.

“We don’t have much time but we play Sunday. It’s a real priority the game at Goodison Park.

“They have the history and quality of the team to be in this position. Brighton is one of the toughest places to go [and after winning 5-1] it was a big impact not just on the table but in mood. At the same time we know what we are playing for.”

Previous Meeting

Our last league trip to Goodison Park ended in a slender 1-0 victory, with Phil Foden’s 82nd minute strike ensuring Pep Guardiola’s men claimed all three points in February 2022.

In the reverse fixture earlier this season, former Everton manager Frank Lampard held us to our third league draw of the campaign, despite City dominating possession.

Erling Haaland gave us the lead in the 24^th minute, slotting the ball past Jordan Pickford with a fine assist by Riyad Mahrez.

But an impressive solo goal by Demarai Gray in the 64^th minute meant the points were shared at the Etihad.

Last Time Out

Everton secured a superb 5-1 away victory over Brighton and Hove Albion last Monday to propel them out of the relegation zone.

As for City, we secured a 2-1 home win over Leeds United in our last league encounter last weekend, thanks to Ilkay Gundogan‘s brace.

We also earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw on Tuesday night in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid.
