The Brazilian international was in the right place at the right time to blast in Ferran Torres‘ cut-back from close-range in the ninth minute.
The goal ended a run of nine league games without a goal for the striker and also marked the 650th City goal under manager Pep Guardiola.
The 23-year-old was happy to have done his job for the team and feels that he’s getting back to his best.
“I’m getting back my rhythm and my power,” he said. “It’s always good to score - I had to.
“To play for a top club I have to score. Today we didn’t have the space to play. I have the first chance, I scored and that’s good for me and the team.
“We started so good. We dropped off a bit after the goal but we were very consistent in defence because we knew they could create chances.”
The forward could have scored his second of the afternoon deep into second-half stoppage time, but his powerful effort was palmed away by Aaron Ramsdale.
Jesus feels that City need to remain firm in home matches to have a good chance of lifting the Premier League trophy at the end of the season.
“That’s what we want, to win the game. At the end of the season we’ll see if we fight for the title. This season is a difficult season for everyone.
“We cannot drop at home. We did not drop and won the game. We have to look at our job.
“We are first, top of the league. We have to go to the pitch and try to win the games. At home we cannot drop points.”
Jesus also saved some praise for the visitors, who did well to nullify the threat of City.
“Yeah they play so good. They are a strong team and we knew this. It was a tough game and difficult for us and also for them too, but we did our work, we did our job and won the game. Three more points in our pocket.
We worked hard to not let them play and not let them create chances, that was important for us. It was important for us to keep the top spot in the Premier League.”
