Opposing manager - arne slot
After short stints at Cambuur and AZ Alkmaar, his time at Feyenoord was most notable.
Becoming finalists with the Dutch side in the Conference League in 2022, before winning an Eredivisie league title and the KNVB Cup in his tenure.
The Dutchman moved to the Premier League as he took over the Reds in June 2024 following the departure of Jurgen Klopp.
During his inaugural season Liverpool’s only competitive loss of 2024 came on 14 September, when Nottingham Forest beat the Reds 1–0 at Anfield.
This also ended up becoming the only league game that season in which Liverpool did not score.
Slot then became the sixth manager in Premier League history to win the Premier League in his first season and the first Dutchman to ever win it.
DANGER MEN
After spending on attacking talents, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike over the summer, Liverpool’s fortunes have paid off with most of their goalscoring threat coming from the newcomers.
Starting with the Frenchman, he began by scoring in the Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace and again on Matchday one of the Premier League season.
Following his brace on Saturday in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Newcastle United, he is now up to a total of 15 goals and four assists across all competitions this season.
In his last 11 appearances Ekitike has netted eight goals and provided two assists. With him being allowed to showcase his versatility on many occasions - something City will have to keep a close eye on.
Despite a difficult start to life in Merseyside, the goal tally is finally adding up for Wirtz.
He has six goals and three assists across his last 11 appearances for the Reds and even glimpses of the dynamic which helped carry Bayer Leverkusen to an invincible Bundesliga season.
A mention should also go to Ryan Gravenberch who isn’t typically known for his goalscoring form and since signing for the Reds from Bayern Munich in 2023, the 23-year-old has only recorded eight goals in 116 games.
However, impressively, half of those have come during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The Dutch international has managed to record four strikes over 21 games.
Pep Guardiola preview
Pep Guardiola will wait to see if Bernardo Silva is available for Sunday’s trip to Liverpool after missing our Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle.
But the City boss has welcomed back Ruben Dias with the defender on the bench for our 3-1 victory over the Magpies, while he has also revealed that John Stones has returned to training.
Bernardo picked up a knock in our last Premier League clash at Tottenham and was unavailable for our semi-final win as we secured a return to Wembley with a place in the Carabao Cup final.
Guardiola will now wait to see if our captain is available for a game at Anfield on Sunday at 16:30 (UK) after assessing him in training.
Marc Guéhi will also be back after being ineligible in the League Cup and there is better news about two other central defenders.
Dias, was in the squad, for the first time in a month after picking up a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Stones has been unavailable since the start of December and is working his way back to full fitness.

Last time out
City booked a place in the Carabao Cup final following a 3-1 win over Newcastle United.
After already being 2-0 up on aggregate after our first leg win at St James’ Park, Omar Marmoush grabbed a brace and Tijjani Reijnders added a third as City opened up a 3-0 lead inside 32 minutes at the Etihad.
Newcastle, however, pulled one back just past the hour-mark, but it was too little, too late as we recorded a 5-1 score line across the two matches.
Previous meeting
City beat Liverpool 3-0 as Pep Guardiola took charge of his 1000th game in management.
Erling Haaland opened the scoring before the half hour mark, thumping home a header, with every outfield player touching the ball in the build-up.
Nico doubled our lead in first half stoppage time with a powerful drive which deflected off Virgil van Dijk on the way through.
With Jeremy Doku making it three with a curled effort into the corner.
