PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW
The boss says he expects Bournemouth to come to the Etihad with confidence after their first Premier League victory of the season last week against Burnley and a narrow loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
“Of course, after the first win they are confident,” he said in his prematch press conference. “They competed well against Liverpool.
“Andoni [Iraola] is an incredibly well respected manager in Spain and did a great job at Rayo Vallecano playing offensive, attractive football.
“They have good spirit and they do not sit back. Of course, results give confidence. The idea is there.
“In Spain, he is one of the younger managers who can have a better future. Training in the Premier League is a big success for him.
“It depends on how we behave and hopefully we can continue giving another good performance.”
PREVIOUS MEETING
We last met Bournemouth in February 2023 when Guardiola’s side ran out 4-1 winners on a day of milestones.
In what proved to be our 200th Premier League away win, Julian Alvarez opened the scoring when firing home from close range.
Haaland, meanwhile, doubled our advantage on 29 minutes, becoming in the process the player with the most goals scored in a single Premier League season for City with what was his 27th of the term at the time.
Foden, on his 200th appearance for the Club, made it three on 45 minutes, moments before half-time, finishing expertly after being played in by a stray pass from Philip Billing.
Alvarez fired off Chris Mepham and past goalkeeper Neto on 51 minutes after a spot of pinball in the box.
Jefferson Lerma did pull one back for the hosts on 83 minutes but it was merely a late consolation
LAST TIME OUT
City produced a masterful performance last time out to beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford.
A coolly dispatched Erling Haaland penalty broke the deadlock before the Norwegian frontman headed home his and our second shortly after half-time.
The 23-year-old then provided an intelligent assist to Phil Foden who scored our third of the afternoon in what was a much-deserved victory for the Treble winners.
