Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson has hailed City boss Pep Guardiola for the innovative way he approaches football.

Robinson is a guest on City’s Matchday Live show this afternoon for the visit of his former club.

And the ex-England stopper has lavished praise on the boss for the fresh insights he brings into the game.

He said: “Pep has been revolutionary.

“The game has changed and I think he’s been a big part of that with his complete addiction to football, with his attention to detail and the new positions he’s created with the inverted full-back a good example of that this season.

“The way he adapts every season is amazing.

“The man is obsessed with football and is always looking for a fresh way for his team to get an advantage and win.”

Robinson also spoke of his admiration for City stopper Ederson.

Our No.31 was pinpointed as a huge asset by Robinson due to his distribution and concentration.

He continued: “I think Ederson is excellent.

“His distribution is brilliant. With a man like Haaland up front, with the runs that he makes, Ederson will see those and pick him out.

“His long distribution is superb as is his distribution around the back.

“The hardest thing for a goalkeeper when you’re playing for a club at Manchester City’s level is concentration.

“You’re going to have to make one or two important saves which inevitably win your team points. He does that.

“He makes the difficult things look very easy, which is the sign of an excellent goalkeeper.”

And what of this afternoon’s 15:00 (UK) encounter at the Etihad?

Robinson believes it’ll be a stern test for the club he spent seven years at because of the form City are in at present.

He added: “Everyone expected City, at some point this season, to click into top gear and go on an unbeaten run and they’re doing it now.

“I think the Champions League performances have really helped with the Premier League run, too.

“They almost look unstoppable now. Look at the way they put four past their nearest rivals at the Etihad, their form in the Champions League to this point and then there’s the Manchester derby for the first time ever in the FA Cup final. That’ll be a fantastic game.

“I just think no-one wants to play City right now.”
