Today, we look back at the victory and some of the statistical stories to have come out of the Etihad win.
Check them out below.
POSSESSION GAME
Ilkay Gundogan was a driving force in the 2-1 win over Leeds United.
Not only was he the goal hero, bagging a brace to earn three points, he also dominated the middle ground, too.
His 193 touches were the most of any player in any Premier League match since February 2020.
Interestingly, that player from February 2020 was team-mate Rodrigo, who had 195 touches in the 2-0 home win over West Ham.
City, in fact, are No.1, 2 and 3 on the ‘Most Touches’ list across the Premier League, since records began in 2003/04.
Skipper Gundogan also had 193 touches in the 4-1 win at Brighton from May 2019.
GOAL GLEE
Ilkay Gundogan’s weekend brace moved him up the Premier League Top 10 list of ‘Highest Goalscorers at the Etihad’.
Gundogan now has 27 top-flight goals on home soil, which has moved him from ninth to joint eighth, alongside Riyad Mahrez on the same total.
Yaya Toure in seventh with 30 goals, Gabriel Jesus is sixth with 31, David Silva is fifth with 36 while Carlos Tevez is fourth with 38.
Into the ‘Top 3’ and Kevin De Bruyne is third with 43 while Raheem Sterling is second with 51.
In top spot, of course, is Sergio Aguero, who has an incredible 106 goals.
Erling Haaland is in the Top 10 at number 10 with 22 goals.
RELIABLE RICO
Rico Lewis was back in the starting line-up for the win over Leeds – and he more than justified his inclusion.
His last start in all competitions was March’s 6-0 win over Burnley in the FA Cup while his last start in the Premier League was the 4-1 away win at Bournemouth in February.
Pep Guardiola praised him in his pre-match press conference, insisting he’s been a big catalyst for City’s title charge this season.
The boss then picked him for the game against Sam Allardyce’s team and the youngster put in a real shift, as you can see from this heat map.
He had 102 touches, 86 successful passes, 59 successful passes in the opposition half and won four duels.
