PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW
Pep Guardiola provided an injury and selection update ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round clash at home to Fulham on Friday afternoon.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the boss revealed that the majority of the squad were fit and available after the brief mid-winter break with some players having also been involved in international action.
However, Guardiola confirmed that one of those involved in World Cup qualifiers – Brazil’s Gabriel Jesus – had returned with a slight issue.
And he also revealed that Cole Palmer was still unavailable for selection.
“Yeah, (the majority are available for selection) except Gabriel who has come back with a little niggles after international break,” Guardiola said.
“Cole Palmer is not ready. After the FA Cup win at Swindon he had a problem and is still not available.
“He hasn’t trained with us since then. We will see what happens in the next weeks.
“The rest that were able to play before the international break are able to play tomorrow.
“(Riyad Mahrez is) Perfect. He comes back (from the break after the Africa Cup of Nations) in a good mood, everyone’s sharp.
“The week off was good for everyone.”
.
LAST TIME OUT
City’s 12-game winning Premier League run ended with a 1-1 draw away to Southampton.
The Blues went behind to an early Kyle Walker-Peters goal but levelled through Aymeric Laporte in the second half.
FORM GUIDE
Guardiola‘s side go into the game unbeaten in nine games in all competitions.
City have won eight successive home games in all competitions since a 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace.
Fulham, meanwhile, are five points clear at the top of the Championship after a blistering run of form saw them win five of their six games in January, scoring an incredible 24 goals in the process.
They have scored 74 goals in the Championship this season and leading scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic already has 28 goals this campaign.
PREVIOUS MEETING
City beat Fulham 3-0 at Craven Cottage in March 2021, with John Stones, Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero all on target.
The Blues have won 14 of the last 17 meetings, drawing the other three matches.
