Pep Guardiola has admitted he is unsure how Manchester City will approach this summer’s transfer window.

Football, like every industry, has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and this unique situation has created uncertainty for the City boss.

Guardiola says he is daily contact with Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, but whilst the pair have discussed what they feel the team needs, he expects transfer business to be put on hold until the 2019/20 season is complete.

“Now the market is uncertain for many reasons,” said Pep at his press conference ahead of City’s trip to Chelsea.

“We have an idea of what we need for the age of the squad, but I don’t know exactly what is going to happen.

“We [Txiki and I] have discussions since month one, month two, month three. We see each other every day and talk about the team.

“But this situation is different to previous years. Nobody knows. I have an idea but I don’t know what will happen for many situations, so we have to wait to the end of this season.

“And after, if we have time, we will see what happens.”

City have made a flying start in our return to Premier League action, scoring eight goals without reply in our first two games back against Arsenal and Burnley.

It’s been a seamless transition after three and a half months off, but Guardiola revealed he had prior concerns as to how his players would perform after such a lengthy break.

Buoyed by a positive return, the 49-year-old is aiming to secure Champions League qualification as quick as possible to ensure his players have the best preparation for the resumption of our FA Cup and Champions League campaigns.

“Right now, we are excited about the way we have competed in these two games,” he explained.

“It was a mystery, the way we would play, after a long time. All the teams think about this. We had doubts, but we have reacted well.

“We are excited, focused on this month and a half we have ahead.

“First we want to qualify for the Champions League, that is the most important thing right now and these two victories have helped us do that. We are close.

“After that, we have Newcastle and Madrid and for this we have to arrive in the best condition possible.

“We have to avoid getting injuries and we have to rotate the team based on how much they have played.

“We want to arrive in these games as best as possible.”
