Jack Grealish is handed his Premier League debut for City in today’s season opener away at Tottenham Hotspur.

Our summer signing from Aston Villa makes his first City start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium having been named on the bench for last weekend’s Community Shield clash with Leicester.

Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan also feature in Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up with Nathan Ake again partnering Ruben Dias at centre half and skipper Fernandinho the holding midfielder

Kevin De Bruyne is amongst those named on the substitutes’ bench with Kyle Walker and John Stones also amongst the replacements following their exploits at EURO 2020 alongside Gabriel Jesus who featured for Brazil at the Copa America.

Last time out

Kelechi Iheanacho’s late penalty was enough to see Manchester City edged out in the Community Shield final against Leicester.

The former City man dusted himself off after being brought down inside the box and clinically dispatched an 89th-minute spot kick to ensure the Foxes won the 2021-22 season’s curtain-raiser.

However, there were plenty of positives to take from the game for City, with Jack Grealish coming off the bench for his debut for the final 25 minutes.

Young duo Cole Palmer and Sam Edozie also continued their fine pre-season form with a mature display at Wembley Stadium.

Last meeting

Aymeric Laporte’s late header secured our fourth successive Carabao Cup triumph, as City played in front of our supporters for the first time since onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The defender rose highest from Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick to head home the game’s only goal with eight minutes of normal time to play, to give hand City the win our performance deserved.

Phil Foden had earlier struck the post and Riyad Mahrez twice went close for City in a dominant display at Wembley Stadium, but Laporte’s decisive contribution ensured the Carabao Cup remained in Manchester for another season.
