We thrashed Watford 6-0 at Wembley that day to win the competition for the first time since 2011 and complete an unprecedented clean-sweep of domestic honours that season.
It remains the only occasion so far City have won the trophy under Pep Guardiola’s management.
With the boss and his assistant Juanma Lillo isolating after testing positive with COVID-19, assistant coach Borrell will take charge of a virus-hit City squad against Swindon Town on Friday evening.
And he says the FA Cup remains one of football’s most prestigious trophies.
“This is the oldest national competition - 150 years old - there is a lot of history,” said Borrell.
“You know better than me that lesser teams beat big opponents [in this competition].
“It creates a great atmosphere, everyone wants to make their village, town or city proud.
“There is a difference in terms of quality of players, this is obvious, but in these games everything gets very close.
“The FA Cup is very special. This is one of the titles we are most proud of achieving in the last six years.
“It’s important to do well and get into the next stage. It will be very close, like any other tie in this competition.”
With Swindon challenging for promotion from League Two, Borrell admits he is expecting a tricky encounter at the County Ground.
A year ago, City were just nine minutes from being eliminated by League Two side Cheltenham Town, trailing 1-0 before rallying to score three goals in the time that remained.
The Robins, fifth in the table, come into the game on the back of a 5-2 win over Northampton Town and Borrell is expecting a similar battle on Friday evening.
“It’s a team we have been able to watch several times, including last game against Northampton that they won,” he said.
“They played great, played the ball from the back and were aggressive.
“We are ready and have to be ready for a top challenge, like against any team would be in this competition. We expect a very tough game.”
