They will return to offer their thoughts on our first half performance during the break, before a more detailed full time assessment, including reaction to Pep Guardiola’s post-match interview.

Rodolfo Borrell Preview

City’s assistant coach Rodolfo Borrell will take charge of Friday’s match at Swindon after Pep Guardiola and assistant Juanma Lillo recorded a positive test on Tuesday.

Ahead of our trip to the County Ground, he said: “(Swindon is) a team we have been able to watch several games, including their last game against Northampton that they won 5-2.

“They played great, played the ball from the back and were aggressive. We are ready for a top challenge, like any team in this competition.

“This is the oldest national competition - 150 years old I think - there is a lot of history. It creates a great atmosphere, everyone wants to make their village, town or city proud.

“There is a difference in terms of quality of players, this is obvious, but in these games everything gets very close. The FA Cup is very special.

“This is one of the titles we are most proud of achieving in the last 6 years. It’s important to do well and get into the next stage.

“It will be very close, like any other tie in this competition.”

LAST TIME OUT

City started 2022 with a dramatic stoppage time victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, extending our winning run to 11 Premier League matches.

Bukayo Saka gave the hosts the lead on the half hour, but a Riyad Mahrez penalty drew Guardiola’s men level early in the second 45. 

The hosts were reduced to 10 just two minutes later when Gabriel was given a second yellow and City’s pressure told in added time when Rodrigo swept home on the rebound from Aymeric Laporte’s initial effort on goal.

FORM GUIDE

City’s late winner at Arsenal means we come into Friday’s clash with Swindon off the back of six straight victories in all competitions.

Guardiola’s men have won 14 of our last 15 matches, a run stretching back to October, with our only blemish on an otherwise perfect record a slender 2-1 defeat to RB Leipzig in our final Champions League group game.

Swindon currently sit fifth in League Two, claiming their first victory since late November with an emphatic 5-2 triumph over Northampton on New Year’s Day.

The Robins booked their place in the FA Cup third round with victories over Crewe Alexandra and Walsall respectively.

PREVIOUS MEETING

Our last encounter with Swindon Town also came in the FA Cup third round, with us coming out on top in a 2-0 win at Maine Road on 5 January 2002. 

Paulo Wanchope gave us the lead in the eighth minute, before Kevin Horlock doubled our advantage just after the hour.

City would eventually be knocked out by Newcastle United in the fifth round, but would go on to secure an immediate return to the top flight under the watchful eye of Kevin Keegan.
