Have you ever wondered what goes into developing elite young footballers? This is your chance to find out…

In the latest instalment of our Health and Wellness series with Vitality, we’re going behind the scenes with a City nutritionist to show supporters how important diet is for maximising our players’ performance and development.

Lloyd Parker is MCFC’s Academy Nutritionist, responsible for every age group from U9s to U18s and also MCWFC.

He works closely with players to ensure they follow a diet which enables them to perform to the best of their ability in training and on matchdays.

However, Lloyd’s role is about much more than monitoring players’ diets.

He also works closely with the Club chefs to develop new recipes and is responsible for educating both players and their parents.

This includes the delivery of of cookery workshops and seminars so players can maintain their diet away from the City Football Academy.

Watch the video below to find out more about Lloyd’s role and City’s approach to nutrition.

If that’s inspired you to improve your mealtimes, then Lloyd can help you too. Simply follow the four steps of the MCFC Academy Nutrition Mission Statement below:

 - Maximise - each meal and snack is an opportunity to fuel and recover.
 - Consistency – ensure you eat well at least 90% of the time.
 - Fluid – sip on water throughout the day, aiming for 2-3 litres.
 - Colour -  the more colourful your plate, the more nutritious its likely to be.

Don’t miss tomorrow’s feature when Lloyd will invite us into the City kitchens and we reveal the ‘Perfect Plates’ for a nutritious diet.
