Gareth Taylor praised what he termed a ‘statement second half display’ as City booked our place in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a dominant 4-1 fifth-round derby triumph at Manchester United.

City had gone in at the break trailing 1-0 after a Katie Zelem corner found the target for the hosts early in the first half.

But having made a double substitution at the break, bringing on Caroline Weir and Hayley Raso, Taylor’s side stunned the hosts with a magnificent second half display.,

City scored three goals in 10 minutes through Lauren Hemp, Ellen White and Weir herself before a late fourth from fellow substitute Bunny Shaw sealed the deal.

And Taylor believed both the manner and execution of our second 45 minutes spoke volumes as to the quality running through the City ranks.

“I thought it was a statement performance from us in the second half,” said the City manager.

“I thought we started quite well and then to give away a poor goal was disappointing and affected us and gave United impetus and they showed more desire.

“I said to the girls at half-time we had to step it up and be more streetwise in our pressing and defending and we just tweaked a few things in possession.

“But when you have someone like Hayley Raso who can come on and punish teams, I think we just turned it around in 12 minutes and we were superb and showed what a good team we are.

“We had to make them work and put them to the sword and we did that in the second half. That was a really top performance in the second half.”

The City boss was also full of praise for Raso’s individual impact after the break.

The Australian international proved a thorn in United’s side throughout the second half and Taylor described the 27-year-old as a scary proposition for any opposition.

“She’s a player that scares you as an opposition player,” Taylor added.

“One of the reasons we brought her to the club is that she scared me for Everton playing against us in the 2020 FA Cup final.

“She made an instant impact and the real key to move her game to the next level is decision making in key moments.

“To have someone like Hayley to come on in a game like that I was really pleased for her. She did really well.”

The only downside on the afternoon was an injury to Vicky Losada who was forced off the break with the boss also confirming that young defender Ruby Mace had also missed the game through injury.

“Ruby picked up an injury to her ankle (on international duty with England Under-19s),” Taylor conformed.

“Unfortunately, we have graded it as something that might not be a few days but a bit longer.

“We will have to see how the players check in and Vicky too with the knock to her knee we will see how that settles

“It might just be a bang to Vicky’s knee. We will see how she checks in over the next few days.”
