The boss will continue to work alongside the Dane on several essential footballing matters having agreed to extend his stay at the Club until 2024.
Among other roles, their relationship includes decisions on recruitment, player and staff development and the Academy to name just a few following Nielsen’s appointment towards the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
And Taylor is relishing the additional time he’ll have to work with City’s players as a result, with the Dane focusing on other departments on a day-to-day basis.
“It’s been great [working with Nielsen]. Nils has been a real key figure for us,” he explained.
“The conversations have been pretty much daily, we talk about all sorts of things from the staffing set-up, from the player set-up in terms of what we have, what we feel we might need.
“The academy as well, because we’ve got some talented players at that level as well and it’s how we try to get the best from them and try and integrate them into the first-team set-up where possible.
“[There have been] Huge conversations with Nils and he’s been great in that respect of just allowing me to try and focus as much as I can on the team alone and he’s trying to deal with all of the other bits that allows me to be able to do that.
“It’s a huge thing to be able to just concentrate solely on the team and what I feel we need and to concentrate on the training pitch which is where I feel I’m at my best.”
Nielsen arrived at the Academy Stadium in May 2023 with a plethora of impressive achievements and experiences in the women’s game.
As a coach, he led his native Denmark to the 2017 Women’s European Championship final before roles in China ahead of leading Switzerland to the 2022 Women’s EUROS.
And Taylor says Nielsen’s appointment shows the immense growth within the sport and is proud that City are helping to lead the way when it comes to new innovations in the women’s game.
He added: “The change in the women’s game has been huge when I think about that first season and where we were in terms of as an organisation to where we are now I think is miles away and I think that’s testament to the club.
“There’s an understanding and rationale for that support and it’s something that we want and really need to be at the forefront and to be constantly pushing in all of the competitions.
“I think Nils coming in has helped us with that, with his expertise, he’s got experience of being at the top level, managing international teams and his club experience as well.
“More than that I think he’s a really good guy, I think he’s a really good person to work with and when you have that you have a real chance.”
