GARETH TAYLOR PREVIEW

When asked in his pre-match press conference what he expects of this weekend’s opposition Everton, Taylor said: “It’s a good game for us. Everton are a team who’ll come out and engage, look to build and press.

“Chelsea say that, they [Everton] were four down but kept trying to press and engage. Hopefully for us it makes it an exciting game but we have to get the details right. When we’ve done that right we’ve been good.

“It’s a good game for us to finish off with but the fact we’re as we are within the group for next year is exciting. It’s not a case of loads of players departing and coming in, this is an opposition for us, a key game to finish strong and show how we play. Result is the result but I want to see an identity.”

PREVIOUS MEETING

Goals from Julie Blakstad and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw earned us three points in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Everton back in November.

After and evenly contested first-half, the Norway international broke the deadlock on 35 minutes when Leila Ouahabi slid an inch-perfect pass into Bunny who drove into the box and unselfishly squared to Blakstad who rolled the ball into an empty net.

The hosts weren’t behind for long, however, equalising on the cusp of half-time through Rikke Sevecke who bundled the ball into the net from all of five yards following a dangerous in-swinging corner.

Undeterred by Everton’s equaliser, City regained the lead five minutes after the interval when Bunny showed her poacher’s instinct to tap home the rebound after Laura Coombs’ venomous effort smashed against the post.

LAST TIME OUT

City’s UEFA Women’s Champions League hopes were dealt a blow as we heartbreakingly lost 2-1 to Manchester United last time out.

After conceding the game’s first goal in the second minute, then being reduced to 10 players after Ellie Roebuck was dismissed, we produced a fantastic second-half display to not only go toe-to-toe with the title chasing hosts but equalise through Filippa Angeldahl.

The Swede picked up a loose ball and swung a dangerous cross into the box which evaded every player and flew over Mary Earps to drop into the net.

Buoyed by our equaliser, we pushed for our second of the afternoon as Hayley Raso came from the bench to send an effort agonisingly wide of the target.

But, the game’s third goal would painfully arrive for Marc Skinner’s side in second-half stoppage time when Lucia Garcia fired through a crowd of City bodies, proving to be the winner.
