GARETH TAYLOR PREVIEW
The boss has revealed he is expecting a tough, physical battle against Liverpool.
“They’ve made a good start,” said Taylor.
“They’re a very aggressive side and you can see that when they don’t have the ball.
“It’s quite risky obviously to be that aggressive, and it is super difficult to do that because we’ve tried it in our game and sometimes teams can exploit the space you leave.
“You can’t control all phases with and without the ball. They’ve done well, Matt Beard has been around a long time and done well there; he knows the club and league really well.
“They are improving all the time, the squad transfer business has been good, and it is a difficult game for us, there’s no doubt about that..
“We’ve played them quite a bit recently, and we need to be in top form in all areas to be successful in this game.”
LAST TIME OUT
City made the perfect start to 2024 last time out by securing passage into the fifth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a deserved 4-0 win over Durham.
Laura Coombs opened the scoring inside seven minutes with a well-taken volley before Jill Roord doubled the visitors’ advantage on the cusp of half-time with a thunderous strike into the top corner.
As the match grew, so did the Netherlands international’s influence on proceedings and she netted her second at Maiden Castle after the interval with a deft chip into the net.
In the closing stages, Taylor introduced a number of substitutes into the match with one of those, Mary Fowler, closing the scoring with her first goal of the season.
PREVIOUS MEETING
The two sides last locked horns in November’s enthralling Continental Cup match at Prenton Park where City earned a hard-fought 4-3 win.
Filippa Angeldahl’s first goal of the season had broken the deadlock just after 30 minutes when she latched onto an incisive aerial ball from goalkeeper Sandy MacIver.
But the hosts flipped the game on its head either side of half-time through former City duo Gemma Bonner and Natasha Flint.
Taylor’s side responded well to the setback though with Jess Park tapping home for the second successive Conti Cup fixture moments after Liverpool went into the lead.
Kelly then took centre stage to seal the points, despite a stoppage time effort from Mia Enderby.
