The game takes place at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday 9 October, with kick-off scheduled for 13:30 (UK).

Gareth Taylor makes two changes from our defeat to West Ham last time out, with Jess Park and Ellen White making way for Georgia Stanway and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw.

Stanway comes in at right back, with Beckie pushed further forward to play alongside Shaw and Hemp in a front three.

Taieb starts between the sticks for her first Manchester Derby, with Stanway, Jill Scott, captain Alex Greenwood and Demi Stokes making up the back four.

Keira Walsh sits in front of the defence, with Filippa Angeldahl and Caroline Weir completing the midfield three.

Beckie and Hemp start on the flanks, with Shaw leading the line at the Leigh Sports Village.

“It’s the perfect game to come back to and one the players are really looking forward to.

“With Derbies, coaches always say they don’t have to get the players up for it. It’d be perfect for us if we get three points on the board. We want to achieve that.

“We did that on our own turf last year. We were in control and give credit to United – they fought back – but we showed our dominance.

“These games are never won or lost in the first half – you have to be at it all the way through to the final minute. That’s what makes these games so special.

“It’ll be even more special with supporters back. The players look forward to these games – both teams want to win and are competitive. It’s an exciting one for us to look forward to.”

LAST TIME OUT

City fell to a third successive FA Women’s Super League defeat, suffering a 2-0 reverse at home to West Ham United.

A Dagný Brynjarsdóttir header and long-range Yui Hasegawa chip claimed the points at the Academy Stadium.

Though Gareth Taylor‘s side carved plenty of chances to level - Laura Coombs striking the post in injury time - the Hammers defended valiantly to preserve their clean sheet and killed the contest in the final seconds to inflict the home side’s fourth defeat in five games.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTER

Goals from Lucy Bronze, Lauren Hemp and a Caroline Weir stunner helped City humble Manchester United 3-0 to claim the bragging rights back in February.

It was Bronze who struck gold first, volleying home through a crowd of bodies just before the 25-minute mark.

United pushed Gareth Taylor’s side all the way, with Christen Press in particular going close, but Hemp added a second on the rebound - City’s 500th goal - with 20 minutes to go.

And Weir killed the game off with a goal of the season contender ten minutes later, chipping Mary Earps from outside the box to seal the points and local bragging rights in spectacular fashion.

City head into the game in disappointing form with four defeats in our last five, looking to return to winning ways in the FA WSL following three successive defeats.

We currently sit ninth in the table with one win and three defeats from our opening four games.

United have won three of their four games of 2021/22, defeating Reading, Leicester and Birmingham to climb to fourth in the table - their only defeat came at home to Chelsea: a 6-1 reverse.
