Jeglertz’s Preview
Speaking to the media on Thursday afternoon Jeglertz confirmed that Ayaka Yamashita, Yui Hasegawa, Aoba Fujino and Mary Fowler will be available for the Manchester derby after their exploits at the Asian Cup.
“They’ve had an intense tournament but they came in with energy,” he said.
“The first day was challenging, flying all the way but the players have missed them and missed our environment and they stepped in the building and directly know how we play and finding their way in the roles in the team.”
The City boss also explained that Grace Clinton remains sidelined with a minor lower body issue though our Head Coach did add that she was making positive progress in her recovery.
“Grace is still not really ready but slowly she’s progressing and hopefully she’s back pretty soon.”
Opposing manager: Marc skinner
Following spells at Birmingham and Orlando Pride, Skinner was appointed as Manchester United’s head coach in the summer of 2021.
In his second season at the helm, he guided them to a second-place finish, their highest-ever WSL position, before winning the FA Cup in 2023/24.
Heading into Saturday’s showdown, United are currently second in the league table, eight points behind the Blues and unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions.
Last time out
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw scored the quickest hat-trick in WSL history as City cruised to a 5-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Joie Stadium.
The Jamaican’s treble inside 21 minutes set the Blues on our way to victory and eased any fears that might’ve lingered after Olivia Holdt had briefly drawn Spurs level.
A further first-half strike from Kerolin and an Amanda Nilden own goal put the game beyond doubt, with Bethany England grabbing a late consolation for the visitors.
Results elsewhere mean City have now moved eight points clear at the top of the WSL, making it ten wins from ten home matches in the league this season in the process.
Previous meeting
A devastating first-half performance from City saw us beat Manchester United 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium and extend our winning WSL run to eight matches.
The Blues took a three-goal lead in at the break against a side that were yet to lose on the road this season, beginning with a Rebecca Knaak header and sliding Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw effort.
However, the pick of the bunch was our third, with Lauren Hemp launching an exquisite, vicious drive into the top corner on her return to the starting line-up.
While we weren’t able to add to the score line after the break, the win moves us seven points clear of our local rivals, and maintains our position atop the WSL table.
