“We are going to fight and give 100%.”

That’s the pledge from Vicky Losada, as City ramp up preparations for a crucial period of fixtures.

Though the midfielder acknowledges the squad have underachieved so far this season, she asserts it has not been for the want of trying with the players doing all they can each day to turn the tide.

Having provided a major boost in recent weeks with a welcome return from injury, the Champions League winner says she – and the rest of the team – are raring to go.

“I’m feeling 100% ready,” she smiled. “I’m happy to have played my first minutes after injury.

“It was unlucky because I was feeling great before but now, I’m focused on what’s to come.

“We have had a difficult start. I’ve never seen it before where there has been so many injuries. It’s a really rare situation and although there can be difficulties in the first month of a season, a lot of things have gone against us.

“The whole squad hasn’t been together yet but one thing I have to say is that the ones who have been available have been giving their best to be ready for every game.

“Some players have been playing in positions they’ve never played before and they have done amazingly well.

“We have a lot of fight. The team is giving 100% for every game and I want to tell the City fans: ‘We are going to fight and try to be at the top of the table.’

“We are sticking together – the team, the group – and although people can’t see it, the dressing room has been amazing.

“That makes things a lot easier when we are in a hard situation. We all know each other and this situation will make us stronger.”

City faced Chelsea a matter of weeks ago, falling to defeat at the Academy Stadium in the Women’s FA Cup.

Although Losada admits the result was tough to take, she asserts her side are ready to come through the other side of this challenging period.

“It was very disappointing,” she reflected. “We wanted to go through to the Final and play at Wembley.

“Especially given our situation, it would have been amazing and it would have given us real energy. We could have started again from zero.

“We have big games coming up and it’s an extra motivation to try and be better every game.

“I’ve been in this situation before with Barcelona. Football can be like this but it also changes very quickly.

“There is still a lot to play for. We are sticking together and we believe in the team.

“We have to keep working and by the end of the year, hopefully the majority of the squad is going to be ready.

“That will be better for everything – for selection, for competition, training and routines…

“I’m sure we’ll get through this situation and that things will change for the better.”
