Vicky Losada says she is relishing the prospect of featuring in her first Manchester Derby.

Signed from her childhood Club Barcelona this summer, the Champions League winner has plenty of experience of footballing rivalry.

Unfortunately, a foot injury ruled her out of October’s league fixture between City and United – a thrilling 2-2 draw at Leigh Sports Village, which the midfielder says showcased exactly what the beautiful game is all about.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s Continental Cup meeting, the 30-year-old says watching that game from the sidelines further fuelled her desire to truly experience Derby Day.

“I really wanted to play!” she smiled. “I was trying but my foot didn’t let me!

“It was a great experience. I know what the Derby is like: for Barca and Espanyol, I had the same feeling.

“This is a different competition with the Conti Cup but it’s United v City!

“Football is about this – passion, emotion. In those games, it gets bigger.

“It was amazing to see the girls fight in the last game. You could see it was a different game – a special one.

“We played most of the game with 10 players so to have come away with a result was amazing.

“It’s a massive game and hopefully, I can play in the next one.”

Three months into her City career, the midfielder has impressed for her new Club – hailed by her manager and teammates for her professionalism.

Having opened her goalscoring account on her league debut, Losada doubled her personal tally in the FA Cup with a stunning long-range rocket and now hopes to push on, having learned a lot under Gareth Taylor’s stewardship – particularly on the attacking front.

“I was so unlucky to get injured,” she reflected. “I had been getting more comfortable with the style and I was enjoying it. City is a team that plays by having the ball in possession.

“It’s true that I’ve learned things already. I always compare things to Barcelona because I was there fore a long time and here, I’ve found different ways of attacking I didn’t see before.

“It’s good for me to learn different ways and it will help me in the future: to have more options, to play for different goals.

“Sometimes, it can take time to adapt but it didn’t’ take much time. From the beginning, the girls welcomed me on and off the pitch, which helped.

“I see myself getting better every day. That’s the most important thing.”
