GARETH TAYLOR PREVIEW

Gareth Taylor says Laura Coombs will come into contention for selection ahead of City’s latest Barclays Women’s Super League clash away to West Ham on Wednesday.

Coombs has been sidelined through injury since our League Cup win over Manchester United in January.

However, addressing the media at Monday’s pre-match press conference, the City boss revealed that the England international had made a successful return to training and would come into his selection thoughts for the trip to east London.

Taylor also said that navigating a month that will see City play eight games across four competitions means he will have to manage the workload on his players carefully.

“As we are [section wise]. Adding Laura Coombs as well,” said Taylor.

“She’s been out training today. She comes in and gives us another attacking option. It’s a real positive for us.

“She was in good form before she picked up that injury.

“Good to have her back in some capacity. I’m anticipating we’ll need everyone.

“We’re going into four competitions in one month. I’ve always said with our squad we’re not equipped to the level we want to. It’s tough, [but] we do have a plan.

“That plan during the game can go out the window a little bit [but] it’s great we’re playing games every three or four days, particularly on the back of the last international break.

“You lose days and they’re having to go again after giving again.”

LAST TIME OUT

An away trip to Spurs saw City fight tooth and nail for an important three points in the race for a Champions League place.

On returning from international duty, Vivianne Miedema gave City the lead on 11 minutes through a headed effort.

But Beth England pulled one back for the hosts just after the half-hour mark in what was proving to be an evenly contested and exciting match.

With it looking set both teams would take one point, Aoba Fujino’s late, thumping strike stole all three points for Taylor’s team.

PREVIOUS MEETING

Our last encounter with the Hammers saw City run out winners with a comfortable 2-0 win.

Lauren Hemp gave us an early lead with her first WSL goal of the 2024/25 season back in October.

Mary Fowler doubled our advantage on 71 minutes to help confirm all three points at the Joie Stadium.
