Game-changer
Lauren Hemp has been a driving force behind City’s success since first joining the Club ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
The winger joined the Club from Bristol City, having bagged nine goals in an impressive 2017/18 season – including a stunning Goal of the Season contender against Arsenal.
She scored her first goal for the Club in a 4-0 triumph at Aston Villa soon after joining and would help City to a cup double at the end of that first campaign, scoring in the FA Cup final win over West Ham United.
But in recent years she’s made that transition from ‘promising talent’ to ‘established star’ and has been a key fixture for Club and Country for several years.
Indeed, four PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year awards - the latter three with City - have been complemented by three inclusions in the WSL Team of the Year.
She also finished the 2024/25 WSL campaign with more assists than any other player, despite missing over half the season through injury.
It’s been a similar story for England, with Hemp key to the Lionesses winning both Euro 2022 and Euro 2025, as well as their march to the 2023 World Cup Final.
Blessed with searing pace and uncanny close-control, Hemp is a full-back’s nightmare, and is deservedly considered one of the best in the world in her position.
That’s what made her decision to sign a contract extension at City until the summer of 2027 so significant, back in April 2024.
