Kompany’s thunderbolt was the iconic goal of City’s Premier League triumph, as he rifled the ball into the top corner from 30-yards to give us a crucial victory in his final game at the Etihad Stadium, which kept us on course to defend our title.
It was a captain taking matters into his own hands to get the job done and that’s exactly what Houghton had done nine months earlier at the Academy Stadium.
With City trailing in the final minute against Bristol City, the 31-year-old was teed up 30-yards from goal and promptly curled a first-time effort into the top left corner to rescue a point for Nick Cushing’s side.
Houghton and Kompany are up against Danny Rowe (AFC Fylde), Wes Burns (Fleetwood Town), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Peter Clarke (Crewe Alexander) and Alan Browne (Preston North End).
