James McAtee has been shortlisted for the 2021/22 Premier League 2 Player of the Season award.

The Manchester City midfielder is one of eight nominees for the annual accolade and is up against Conor Bradley (Liverpool), Sonny Hilton (Fulham), Dilan Markanday (Tottenham Hotspur), Kazeem Olaigbe (Southampton), Jesurun Rak-Sakyi (Crystal Palace) and Tom Dickson-Peters and Abu Kamara (both Norwich City).

McAtee, who made his first team debut in September and was voted Elite Development Squad (EDS) Players’ Player of the Year, enjoyed an outstanding campaign as City won the Premier League 2 for the second successive season.

He scored 18 goals to finish as the division’s joint top scorer alongside Crystal Palace’s Rak-Sakyi, which included back-to-back hat-tricks against Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United in August.

The City midfielder also provided seven assists, meaning he directly contributed to more goals than any other player in the league.

The award nominees were decided by the Premier League Football Development Panel after PL2 club coaches nominated the best performances by opposing players throughout the season and the same panel will also select the winner.
