Toure was part of the squad that qualified for the Champions League for the first time in the Club’s history in 2010/11 and he believes it is now a case of when not if we will lift the famous trophy.
“For me, City are ready to win the Champions League,” he said ahead of our third group stage game against Atalanta.
“Last season they were unlucky not to qualify for the final – but the Champions League is coming.”
Having called time on his playing career in 2017, Toure is now into his third season as a coach under Brendan Rodgers.
He enjoyed great success at Celtic, as the Bhoys won a domestic treble in his first campaign in the technical area, before he followed Rodgers to Leicester City midway through last season.
It means he’s already returned to the Etihad in a coaching capacity, on that fateful night in May when his former defensive partner Vincent Kompany rocketed the ball into the top corner to secure a precious win.
Currently third in the table, the Foxes could again prove stubborn opposition when they travel to Manchester shortly before Christmas and it’s a game Toure, who loves the challenge English football presents, is looking forward to.
“For me it’s fantastic coaching [in England],” he added.
“I played all my career here. Now I am coaching and learning the game with a top manager.
“It’s going to be a great game.
“It’s always fantastic to come to this beautiful stadium with those great fans. I am looking forward to it, definitely.”
