Pep Guardiola preview
On Chelsea: “Tough game, tough side. Well managed. It doesn’t matter the position you are when you travel there always it is difficult. But we are looking forward to the next three games in three different competitions.
“The way we have to reduce the gap [to leaders Arsenal] is play good and win games.
“Arsenal will get 100 points if they continue this way and we will not catch them. Yesterday they were excellent against Newcastle again so let’s see what happens.”

AymericLaporte‘s availability for Chelsea will be decided after this afternoon’s training session, Guardiola says. Ruben Dias, who has not featured in a matchday squad since the World Cup, is ruled out.
Julian Alvarez was the last player to return from Qatar following Argentina’s success and was used as a late substitute against the Toffees.
PREVIOUS MEETING
Our last meeting was in November in the Carabao Cup when second half goals from Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez gave us a 2-0 victory.
Thursday’s game will be the first in the Premier League this season and will be quickly followed by a rematch in the FA Cup at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Last season, City did a Premier League double over Chelsea with 1-0 victories home and away.
A Gabriel Jesus strike secured three points at Stamford Bridge in September 2021 while Kevin De Bruyne got the only goal at the Etihad in January.
FORM GUIDE
City have won one and drawn one in the Premier League since the World Cup along with the Carabao Cup victory over Liverpool. Chelsea, meanwhile, have played just twice beating Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge and drawing away to Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day.
