After an incredible ten-and-a-half months and 61 matches, Ederson had the final crucial touch of our remarkable season to ensure that Manchester City secured a historic Treble.

Leading the Champions League final 1-0 after Rodrigo‘s second half strike, Inter pushed forward in an attempt to take the game into extra-time.

Ederson had already made one astonishing save to deny Romelu Lukaku, shifting his feet to instinctively keep out a close range header.

Collecting a cross on the edge of his box deep into the game to take the pressure off the defence prompted celebrations from the City fans inside Istanbul’s Ataturk Stadium.

The Italians carved out one final opportunity with an injury time corner but Robin Gosen’s nearpost flick was turned away by the City keeper and seconds later he was hugged by Nathan Ake before dropping to the floor as the referee blew the final whistle.

It capped another brilliant season from the Brazilian when he was once again a reliable and pivotal part of City’s success.

Ederson has now won the Premier League title in five of six seasons at the Etihad Stadium, proving to be the ideal keeper for Pep Guardiola‘s system - brilliant on the ball, alert to danger and capable of making crucial saves.

The 29-year-old made 35 league appearances, reaching that tally in each of his seasons with the Club, keeping 11 clean sheets.

While he didn’t claim the Golden Glove for most clean sheets for a fourth successive year, it was still an impressive campaign and one that saw him become the 17th goalkeeper to keep 100 clean sheets in Premier League history.

He reached the landmark in a crucial 2-0 win over Newcastle in March, becoming the third quickest to the milestone.

In all competitions, Ederson kept 18 clean sheets - a number he has reached in each of his six seasons - with seven of them coming from just 11 matches in the Champions League as well as remaining unbeaten in his only 45 minutes of domestic cup football as a second-half substitute against Bristol City in the FA Cup.

Summer signing Stefan Ortega Moreno was predominantly used in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and along with Scott Carson, the keepers have built a close-knit unit working with coaches Xabi Mancisidor and Richard Wright.

In the Champions League, Ederson excelled as City remained unbeaten throughout our successful campaign.

The No. 31 was beaten only once at the Etihad Stadium in five games, in the 2-1 Group G victory over Borussia Dortmund, keeping crucial clean sheets against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

City didn’t concede more than one goal in any European game, with Ederson in the side that drew 1-1 away to RB Leipzig, Bayern and Real in the knockout stages.

He saved 28 of the 31 on-target shots that he faced in the Champions League, for a save percentage of 87.1% - the highest of the 30 goalkeepers to face 20 or more such shots.

But it’s not just his saving ability that makes him the ideal keeper with his ball-playing skills making him an attacking threat.

Ederson was one of four goalkeepers to claim an assist in the Premier League - with his brilliant drilled pass against Brighton in October picking out Erling Haaland, and the City striker finished the opportunity in style.

He is always looking to get his team attacking and City created chances with an expected goals value of 8.43 from the open-play sequences Ederson was involved in, the most of any goalkeeper in the Premier League last season with his involvement leading to 54 shots, more than any of his rivals.

The total distance covered of his successful passes in open play was 17,532 metres, the most of any goalkeeper.

Against high pressing teams, he is able to take the ball under pressure and he received more open-play passes in his own penalty area than anyone else, with 679 in total.

Of the 23 goalkeepers to attempt 150+ long passes, Ederson was the only one to successfully find a team-mate with over half (53%).

His vision and ability to pick out the right pass is why he is such an influential member of the team that thrives on possession and movement.

Players who received a pass in open-play from Ederson in the Premier League had 3.7 passing options available to them on average after receiving the ball – the highest figure for any goalkeeper to complete at least 150 passes.

But it wasn’t just in the Premier League where his quality on the ball was important with Ederson keeping the same calmness on the ball at the Santiago Bernabeu, Allianz Arena and Ataturk among other stadiums on our European adventure.

He completed 75% of his passes in the Champions League when under high pressure from an opponent (21/28), the best rate of any goalkeeper to attempt at least 10 such passes.

And in the final seconds of the season, Ederson made sure that he and this fantastic City team secured their place in the history books.
