Formation and likely tactics

The back four takes care of itself with Walker at right-back and Joao Cancelo on the left.

Pep Guardiola has to balance his centre-backs, with Aymeric Laporte retaining his place as Dias returns from a minor knock.]

Rodrigo, Bernardo and Phil Foden will make the midfield trio while Mahrez and Sterling will provide support for Gabriel Jesus.

Can City create more history?

City have the chance to make it 11 Premier League wins in a row this evening and 17 consecutive wins in all competitions.

But Everton represent a difficult test.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side can go level on points with sixth-placed Liverpool ahead of this weekend’s Merseyside derby.

The Toffees have two games in hand on the teams above them – apart from City – and are genuine Champions League contenders.

Their main issue has been winning games at Goodison Park, where they slipped up again at the weekend, losing 2-0 to struggling Fulham.

City have unbelievable momentum at the moment, but the loss of Ilkay Gundogan is a huge one given the form he is in.

The way both teams play makes this an unlikely goalless draw, and with the Toffees playing an open, attacking brand of football, it should be an entertaining 90 minutes at Goodison Park.

Stats and milestones

City are on a club record run of 16 consecutive victories in all competitions, since a 1-1 Premier League home draw against West Bromwich Albion on 15 December. It is the longest competitive winning streak by an English top flight team.

  • City are unbeaten in 23 matches in all competitions (W20-D3-L0), since a 2-0 Premier League defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on 21 November. During this unbeaten run, the only team the Blues trailed to was League Two Cheltenham Town in the FA Cup fourth round.

  • City conceded only six goals in their current 23-match unbeaten run in all competitions.
  • City have won 11 consecutive Premier League fixtures. It is the club’s joint-third longest league winning streak: August to December 2017 (18), February to August 2019 (15) and April to September 2015 (11).
  • City have kept 22 clean sheets in all competitions this season (from 36 matches), more than any other team in the top five European leagues or the top four tiers of English league football. The Citizens kept 23 competitive clean sheets in the entire 2019/20 campaign (from 59 matches).
  • City can win a top flight away match versus Everton and Liverpool in a single season for the first time since 1981/82 (1-0 at Goodison Park, 3-1 at Anfield).
  • In the 2020/21 Premier League, Ederson has kept more clean sheets (14) than he has conceded goals (13).
  • Ilkay Gündogan (11) is Manchester City’s leading Premier League goal-scorer this campaign. All 11 of those goals came in the German’s last 12 PL appearances, but he had to be substituted after picking up an injury in the weekend win against Tottenham Hotspur.
  • Gabriel Jesus has netted in each of City’s last five Premier League matches versus Everton. The Toffees (7) are the only opponents the Brazilian has scored more than four PL goals against.
  • Raheem Sterling can become the fourth player to score in at least four consecutive City Premier League away fixtures, after Uwe Rösler, Sergio Agüero and Gabriel Jesus.
  • John Stones (99) is one short of 100 Premier League appearances for Manchester City. He netted one goal in 77 PL matches for Everton (2013-2016) before joining the Citizens.
