PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW
“They are hungry, fresh in body and mind but I don’t know their rhythm. They have prepared the game but I don’t know. Hopefully we can compete at a level this competition deserves.
“I have huge respect. I said to the players this morning you have to prepare mentally and be ready to suffer. It will be a tight, tight game 100% - I feel it - and normally my guts don’t lie to me!”
NATHAN aKE PREVIEW
“We know it’s going to be tough. There’s was one of the toughest groups and to come through that show you how tough tomorrow will be. Last year was tough too, we drew here. We need to be ready to face a tough team.
“Every match is a match of its own. We are in a good rhythm, a lot of games and it’s been going well - but tomorrow is another day and another game. They will be up for it, it’s a big occasion. Both teams will be up for it.”
SUSPENSIONS
City will have no suspensions, however, if Ruben Dias picks up a yellow card in this match, he will miss the return leg at the Etihad Stadium.
As for the hosts, their group stage hero Lukas Lerager, who scored the goal to get them into the knockouts, will miss the game after receiving a straight red card.
PREVIOUS MEETING
We last faced the Danish champions in matchday four of the 2022/23 Champions League group stages, where ten-man City progressed into the knockout stages after a goalless draw in a game dominated by VAR calls.
A spectacular 10th minute Rodrigo strike was overturned by VAR after Riyad Mahrez was adjudged to have handled the ball in the build-up.
Another VAR call by referee Artur Dias then saw City awarded a 24th minute penalty – only for Mahrez’s subsequent spot-kick to be saved.
And the TV monitor again took centre stage on 30 minutes when Sergio Gomez was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Copenhagen’s Hákon Haraldsson after referee Dias was again advised to refer to the VAR monitor.
Despite being a man down though, City looked the more likely to score but ultimately settled for a goalless draw at the Parken Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
Our last fixture of the group stages against Red Star Belgrade was action-packed, as City led thanks to stunning goals from debutant Micah Hamilton and a fine individual effort from Oscar Bobb.
The hosts pulled one back before Kalvin Phillips scored from the spot to make it 3-1.
The hosts scored again in added time to set up a grandstand finish.
In the league, we overcame Everton 2-0 on Saturday, with both goals coming from Erling Haaland.
As for Copenhagen, they won 1-0 at home to Galatasaray in their final Group A match to secure second place and qualify for the knockout stages.
They also won 3-1 in their most recent fixture last Thursday against Molde in The Atlantic Cup.
