Rodrigo said: “We respect a lot Real Madrid - they are the king of the competition - but we have weapons and they know that.
“I have the philosophy and so do my teammates, that you can learn from past experience.
“We did a great two games last year but we did not go through.
“But we are here again to fight - with motivation.
“We have been very, very good this year and we arrive here in the best moment.”
Guardiola added: ““We arrived here last season with encouragement to get to the final.
“We played really good in both games. But it was not enough.
“But what happened in the past is the past. We are not here for revenge. It’s just another opportunity.
“As much as we are here, one day we will get it. One day we will reach the final and we will win it. We come here to do this this season.
“Last season we also came here to reach the final and win it. But it didn’t happen because we played against Real Madrid and in this competition they know exactly what they have to do.
“As much as we play against them or the other top teams in Europe, much closer we will be.”
PREVIOUS MEETING
Our last outing with Real Madrid came only in last season’s Champions League semi-final stages, as we were knocked out in the cruellest of fashions. The La Liga outfit scored three goals in five injury time minutes to win the tie 6-5 on aggregate.
We had control of the contest, winning a thrilling battle 4-3 at the Etihad, before Riyad Mahrez put us ahead at the Bernabeu.
But the 14-time winners of the competition caught City off guard in the closing stages.
LAST TIME OUT
An Ilkay Gundogan double sealed a narrow 2-1 victory against Leeds United, in a tough assignment at the Etihad. Rodrigo Moreno pulled one back for the Whites late on, to make it nervy ending, but City remained resilient and saw the game out.
