TEAM NEWS
Pep Guardiola made six changes for tonight’s Carabao Cup clash at Tottenham Hotspur – with Nico O’Reilly starting plus academy aces Farid Alfa-Ruprecht and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey also in the squad this evening.
O’Reilly, Stefan Ortega Moreno, John Stones, Nathan Ake, James McAtee and Ilkay Gundogan come in.
Meanwhile, Ederson, Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic, Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland drop to the bench while Manuel Akanji misses out completely for the 20:15 (UK) kick-off in the capital as the Blues aim for progress into the quarter-final of the competition.
Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish are all still absent as well as long-term absentees Oscar Bobb and Ballon d’Or winner Rodri while Akanji was due to start but was injured in the warm-up, meaning Ruben Dias came in to captain the side.
CITY XI: Ortega Moreno, Lewis, Stones, Dias (C), Ake, Gundogan, McAtee, O’Reilly, Savinho, Nunes, Foden
Subs: Ederson, Kovacic, Haaland, Bernardo, Gvardiol, Wright, Simpson Pusey, Alfa Ruprecht
PREVIOUS MEETING
Our last league cup clash with Spurs was in the final of the competition in 2021, where Aymeric Laporte’s goal proved to be the difference and helped us claim our fourth consecutive Carabao Cup.
With 8,000 supporters in attendance – the most at any game in England since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic – Guardiola’s men rose to the occasion at Wembley, where the win was made all the sweeter by the sight of 2,000 City fans celebrating at full-time.
The last time we faced Spurs across any competition was in May 2024, where Erling Haaland’s second half brace saw City secure a priceless 2-0 victory– and moved Pep Guardiola’s side back to the top of the Premier League table and within one win of a historic fourth straight title, which we went on to claim later in the month.
LAST TIME OUT
We reached this stage of the competition by beating Watford 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, as Matheus Nunes scored his first goal for the Club, with Jeremy Doku scoring the other.
In league terms, we secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Southampton thanks to Erling Haaland‘s early goal.
As for Spurs, late goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson helped them overcome Championship side Coventry in the last round.
They face Crystal Palace in the league on Sunday, with kick-off at 14:00 (UK).
