Two changes for City: Gundogan and Walker return
City make two changes from the side that put Sporting Lisbon to the sword on Tuesday evening.
Ilkay Gundogan and Kyle Walker are recalled to the starting XI, with Riyad Mahrez and John Stones dropping to the bench.
Gundogan skippers the side this afternoon.
Line-up
Ederson, Walker, Cancelo, Dias, Laporte, Rodrigo, Gundogan (c), De Bruyne, Bernardo, Sterling, Foden
Subs: Carson, Stones, Ake, Zinchenko, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Delap, McAtee, Lavia
Probable formation
No formational surprises are likely in the starting XI Pep Guardiola has named.
It looks like a familiar 4-3-3 on paper with Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne the more advanced of the midfield trio that will see Rodrigo anchoring.
Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Bernardo will be tasked with finding space in what Spurs boss Antonio Conte has suggested will be a compact formation.
PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW
“This is a problem - the fact they lost three times makes it more difficult tomorrow. It’s difficult for top teams to lose four times in a row. They have a lot of weapons, we suffer with Son, Harry Kane, Moura, they have a lot of quality.
“The process and patterns start realising what they have to do.
“A manager who arrives in the season, it is not easy to make changes. With games every three days it’s not easy. In football we don’t have time. This Club gave me time and that’s why I will always be grateful.
“But managers need time to get ideas across and get players to follow what they feel.”
LAST TIME OUT
City took a huge step towards the Champions League quarter-finals with a 5-0 first leg win over Sporting.
Guardiola‘s men were four goals to the good at the break - a record in the competition - and have also won a record five successive knockout matches.
As for Tottenham, they fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
PREVIOUS MEETING
Heung-Min Son’s second half strike was enough to down City on the opening day of the Premier League season at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
However, the last league clash at the Etihad Stadium saw Guardiola‘s men emerge as 3-0 victors.
