Rules

Should the tie remain level after two legs, the winner will be determined by the ‘away goals’ rule.

In the event of a level aggregate score, as well as each team scoring the same amount of away goals, the quarter-final clash will be decided by a penalty shootout.

For safety reasons in the wake of the pandemic, the fixture will be played behind-closed-doors.

In line with current protocols, additional balls will be placed at intervals around the pitch.

City will be without captain Steph Houghton for Wednesday’s second leg clash with the Spanish Champions as she steps up her recovery from an achilles injury.

Demi Stokes also misses out as she awaits the results of a scan from an injury sustained against Reading.

“It is about focusing on the positives. When we looked at the stats, they suggested it was close in terms of chances and expected goals. That gives us perspective.

“We are not safe, we know the game is played in both boxes. We know we need to take our chances and not give chances away.

“It would be nice to score early, but the longer the game goes on, if we are in touching distance we have proven we can score goals late on. We will be going for it.

“They have a number of dangerous players, as do we. That’s what you want to see in the Champions League quarters.

“We’re not focused on one player. We are focused on Barcelona as a team and their threats and areas we can exploit.”

The forward’s dramatic winner edged a tense, hard-fought encounter against a stoic Reading outfit to lift Gareth Taylor‘s side above Chelsea in the table with just four games remaining.

Despite dominating possession and creating a hatful of opportunities, the hosts had looked to be left rueing missed chances but a moment of magic from Lauren Hemp to carve the decisive moment extended our impressive league winning streak to 11 games and issue a real statement of our title credentials.
