GARETH TAYLOR PREVIEW

“It’d be hard to deny that [this is one of the biggest derbies”.

“For us certainly, the games are important now.

“United this week, Liverpool next, West Ham after that, Bristol City away, those games are super important as well, every game is now.

“The margin for error is really tight. Any dropped point can be quite damaging. We don’t underestimate any game. But I’d probably have to agree and say it’s one of the biggest derbies.”

Teams

City boss Gareth Taylor retains an unchanged line-up for Saturday’s huge Barclays Women’s Super League Etihad derby against Manchester United.

The manager has kept faith with the same starting eleven that secured an impressive 4-1 win away at Brighton and Hove Albion last week.

It means Mary Fowler, who has scored two goals in her last two appearances, again gets the nod to start upfront alongside Lauren Hemp and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, who needs just one more goal to become City’s all-time leading goalscorer.

City, who lie second behind leaders Chelsea only on goal difference, will go into the game seeking to maintain a superb run of form in the league and so maintain our charge for a first WSL title since 2016.

CITY XI: Keating, Casparij, Aleixandri, Greenwood (C), Ouahabi, Hasegawa, Park, Coombs, Fowler, Bunny, Hemp

Subs: MacIver, Stokes, Houghton, Morgan, Angeldahl, Mace, Kennedy, Blindkilde-Brown, Kelly

UNITED: Earps, Garcia, Le Tissier, Blundell, Zelem, Toone, Parris, Turner,  Riviere, da Silva Ferreira, Naalsund,

Subs: Tullis-Joyce, Mannion, Guerrero, Malard, Ladd, Evans, Rabjohn, Williams, Aherne.

LAST TIME OUT

City recorded our 10th straight WSL victory with a strong 4-1 win away at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Lauren Hemp opened the scoring before Mary Fowler doubled our advantage on the cusp of half-time at Broadfield Stadium.

Following the interval, Taylor’s team kept our foot on the accelerator and pulled further ahead thanks to goals from Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Laura Coombs.

Our lead was shortened by Lee Guem-Min’s consolation in second-half stoppage time which did little to dampen the visitors’ spirits.

EVent information

There’s plenty going on at the Etihad Stadium ahead of kick-off this weekend.

You can find a handy breakdown of all the events going on before and during the clash here...

PREVIOUS MEETING

The last time we locked horns with our city-rivals was in our battling 2-1 win in the Continental Cup at the Joie Stadium in January.

In November’s reverse WSL fixture at Old Trafford, we produced a superb performance to come from a goal down to win 3-1.

Quickfire goals from Jill Roord and Lauren Hemp turned the match on its head before half-time and Bunny Shaw extended our lead further shortly after the break.
