WHEN AND WHERE

The game takes place at the Academy Stadium on Sunday 31 October, with kick-off scheduled for 12:45 (UK).

The winners of this fixture will face either Arsenal or Brighton at Wembley on Sunday 5 December in what will be its 50th anniversary.

The match will be shown live on BBC One, while we’ll have live text coverage of the game in our Matchday Centre and on Twitter @ManCityWomen, and following the full-time whistle, a comprehensive match report and post-match reaction from Gareth Taylor will be available to view on mancity.com and our official app.

Highlights will be available from midday the following day and should you miss the action entirely, a full-match replay will also be available to view with a CITY+ subscription.

Gareth Taylor makes two changes from our 5-1 Continental Cup victory over Everton before the international break, with cup tied duo Ruby Mace and Alanna Kennedy replaced by Demi Stokes and Jill Scott respectively.

Karima Taieb starts between the sticks, shielded by Scott, Greenwood and Stokes, while Beckie and Hemp provided width as wing backs.

Keira Walsh sits in front of the defence, with Laura Coombs and Caroline Weir given licence to get forward and support the attack.

At the sharp end, Shaw and White start as a front two.

“Hopefully, it will be a good game and a successful game for us and a result we’re looking for to take us to a third Final in four years.

“We’re fully aware of our opponent. They’re really strong and when you get down to this level, you’re going to get that.

“You know you have to stay in the game against these types of teams. They’re very strong with good energy and strength in depth.

“We know we’re playing a decent team with a good manager but I also know the players are excited for the challenge.

“It’s great for women’s football that you’re getting two good teams going up against each other, both wanting to be successful.

“We’ve shown success in this competition – it’s the same with any team who has had success. You don’t want to give it up. You want to get to the Final to give yourself the best chance.

“We know it’s going to be difficult against Chelsea but we have home advantage and we will try to use it.”

LAST TIME OUT

City began our Continental Cup campaign in style with a deserved 5-1 win over Everton at the Academy Stadium.

A sumptuous solo effort from Caroline Weir saw Gareth Taylor’s side take the lead before the ten-minute mark, but the visitors hit back almost instantly through Grace Clinton.

Undeterred, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw rose highest before the break to head City into a deserved half-time lead, before Lauren Hemp added number three as the game approached the 75-minute mark.

Substitute Jess Park made it four from close-range after Ellen White stole back possession in the Everton half late on, before the England striker got herself on the scoresheet with a near-post header to round off the scoring.

The result was just rewards for City, whose gutsy display will leave Gareth Taylor with plenty to smile about leading into the international break.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTER

The two sides played out a breathless 2-2 draw at the Academy Stadium in the FA Women’s Super League back in April.

Chloe Kelly’s close-range finish cancelled out Sam Kerr’s headed opener inside the half hour, but Pernille Harder hauled the league leaders in front once again before the break from the spot.

Gareth Taylor’s side probed for the equaliser, and were rewarded for our efforts when Lauren Hemp pounced on a miscued clearance from Millie Bright with 15 to play.

City laid siege to the Chelsea goal in search of the win, but the stalemate means we remain two points behind Emma Hayes’ side with two matches of the season to play.

FORM GUIDE

City head into the game on the back of a mixed run of results but having won two of our last four games in all competitions.

Taylor’s side are the current holders of the Women’s FA Cup, having secured back=to-back triumphs in 2019 and 2020 - two of three successes in the last four years.

We earned our place in the last four with victories over Aston Villa, West Ham United and Leicester City, while Chelsea defeated London City Lionesses, Everton and Birmingham.

Emma Hayes’ side are unbeaten in all competitions since their FA Women’s Super League opening day defeat to Arsenal, winning five of their last six.

City and Chelsea have met five times in the competition and four times in the semi-finals.

Our last FA Cup encounter was decided by Magdalena Eriksson’s injury-time own-goal, as City triumphed on home soil before going on to beat West Ham 3-0 in the 2019 Final.
