Gareth Taylor preview
“We had Everton in the competition last season, plus Man United and Liverpool.
“It was three tough games. This is a fairly tough group again but it is what it is. We want to do well in this competition. We’ll take it as seriously as we possibly can.
“It’s just making sure we respect this trophy and we do. Last season, we went to the quarter-finals and were seconds from going through [against Chelsea].
“I think if we go through, we win that trophy. No disrespect to the other teams but it was us or Chelsea.
“We take it really seriously. We want to win trophies. We’re out of one competition already so we need to be as competitive as we can be, marrying in players’ loads and expectations to try and be as successful as we can.”
LAST TIME OUT
City recovered to earn a battling 2-2 draw with Manchester United despite seeing Georgia Stanway sent off after 35 minutes.
Bunny Shaw gave City the lead, before two quick United goals looked set to hand the Blues a Manchester derby loss.
But Ellen White poached an equaliser after Jess Park struck the woodwork to earn a morale-boosting point.
PREVIOUS ENCOUNTER
City thrashed Everton 4-0 at Goodison Park to start the FA WSL campaign in style last month.
Though the hosts started brightly, a three-goal burst in the first half all-but sealed the points before the break.
Vicky Losada (26), Janine Beckie (36) and Bunny Shaw (38) left the Toffees reeling and skipper Steph Houghton (67) wrapped up victory midway through the second period.
FORM GUIDE
City head into this game still in the middle of a disappointing run, with just one win in six matches (all competitions).
Everton have won two of their five FA WSL matches and sit above City in the table.
Encouragingly, City have won all 12 of the last dozen meetings between the clubs.
