Gareth Taylor made three changes to the side that thrashed Nottingham Forest in the Women’s FA Cup, as Keira Walsh, Georgia Stanway and Jess Park were reinstated to the starting XI in place of Laura Coombs, Filippa Angeldahl and Janine Beckie.

Ellie Roebuck took her place between the sticks, shielded by a backline of Demi Stokes, Alex Greenwood, Ruby Mace and Lucy Bronze. Walsh returned to the defensive midfield spot, employed behind Caroline Weir and Stanway, while Lauren Hemp and Park occupied the wings. Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw led the line upfront.

New signing Julie Blakstad was named on the bench for the first time, while Alanna Kennedy and Hayley Raso returned from international duty but Steph Houghton missed out.

Chloe Kelly (ACL), Esme Morgan (leg fracture) and Karen Bardsley (hamstring) remain long-term absentees.

“We feel like it is a privilege for us to be in a semi-final. We are looking forward to it.

“We have played Spurs already. We lost that game but should have been out of sight by half time. We have learned from that but we are a different proposition now if you look at who was missing.

“They are difficult to break down. They make it really difficult. They try and hit you on counters. We need to take our opportunities. Nothing changes when we play, it is about how efficient we are in both boxes. Recently, we have been good in those areas and it’s about making sure we are tomorrow night.

“People always have a perception of what’s an easy game or more difficult. For me, there are no easy games.

“In the semi-finals, it is about producing the right performance in the right moment. We are not thinking beyond that. We have got a big game at Chelsea on Sunday. We have 24 hours less to recover. For some reason, the FA put the game on different days. We’ll manage that and do our best to get the Final.

“Things are getting back to normality now. We are still a couple of players short. I think the way everyone has handled the really heavy start to the New Year has been brilliant. Players and staff have been really professional to put us in the position we are now.

“We want to get to a final. We are quietly confident we are heading in the right direction.”

Previous meeting

A controversial late goal consigned City to a 2-1 defeat against Spurs in our first home match of the season.

Lauren Hemp headed Gareth Taylor’s side into an early lead from an Alex Greenwood corner, but Rachel Williams responded just after the hour.

And the unlikely turnaround was completed as stoppage time approached when a ball in from the right struck City’s far post before deflecting into the net off the unfortunate Karima Taieb.

Replays showed that Rosella Ayane had clearly handled though our protests fell on deaf ears.

Last time out

City progressed into the Fifth Round of the Women’s FA Cup with a clinical 8-0 victory away to Nottingham Forest.

Georgia Stanway grabbed a hat-trick, surpassing Nikita Parris as City’s record scorer in the process, while a brace from Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and further strikes from Caroline Weir, Lauren Hemp and Filippa Angeldahl secured a comprehensive win in the East Midlands.

And there was further good news for City, with Ellie Roebuck returning between the sticks for her first appearance of the season after recovering from injury.
