Everything you need to know ahead of City's latest Continental Cup clash.

When and where

City welcome Sunderland to the Academy Stadium for our Group B fixture on Sunday 27 November, with kick-off scheduled for 14:00 (UK).

The match is available to watch live on CITY+ and Recast, while you can also keep across all the key moments on our dedicated matchday Twitter account: @ManCityWomen.

A detailed match report as well as reaction from Gareth Taylor and players alike will be available soon after the final whistle, while highlights and a CITY+ full-match replay can also be enjoyed later in the afternoon.

Gareth Taylor preview

“There’s nothing better for a group of players than winning games and being a part of things, we have a good opportunity to do that [this weekend] but won’t get ahead of ourselves too soon.

“We’ve isolated key blocks of games and this one sits in the middle of a three-game block.

“We just need to keep the focus on this one, not get ahead to Brighton.

“Once we’ve got that done, we’ve got a good a nice week leading to a two or three game week.”

“[The game against Blackburn] was a good opportunity for players to get minutes under the belt and to help some of the players gain a rest.

“This situation is different, we don’t play for two weeks in the WSL, so we need to make sure we give the players what they need so everyone’s prepared for the next round of games we have.

“There’s a few knocks here and there so we just need to manage the load accordingly for the players and try and keep everyone as healthy as we possibly can.”

Form Guide

Gareth Taylor‘s side are searching for a seventh consecutive victory in all competitions when we welcome Sunderland to the Academy Stadium.

City have found the net 20 times during that run, conceding just twice in the process, and currently sit fourth in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Sunderland meanwhile are 11th in the Women’s Championship, searching for their first win since a 2-0 triumph over Crystal Palace in October.

In terms of the Continental Cup, City currently sit second in Group B, while Sunderland’s slender 1-0 defeat to leaders Liverpool leaves them fourth.

Previous meeting

The last time City and Sunderland faced each other was in an FA Cup encounter back in March 2018.

Goals from Demi Stokes, Ella Toone and a Jane Ross brace were enough to secure our progression to the last four on that occasion, with Nick Cushing’s side running out 4-2 winners after extra time in South Shields.

Last time out

City made it six wins on the spin with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph away to Everton in our last match.

Julie Blakstad handed Gareth Taylor‘s side a deserved lead at Walton Hall Park before the hosts levelled on the stroke of half-time through Rikke Sevecke.

But a poacher’s finish from Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw was enough to earn City the points on Merseyside, when the Jamaican pounced after Laura Coombs‘ spectacular strike from distance cannoned back off the post.
