Bio

CLUB CAPTAIN...

A composed and integral figure in our backline, Alex Greenwood joined City from reigning European champions Olympique Lyonnais in September 2020.

A key figure in the game, Greenwood brought a wealth of experience to the Joie Stadium, having represented Everton, Liverpool, Notts County, Liverpool and Manchester United prior to her year-long stint in France.

At Lyon, the defender achieved her dream of lifting the Champions League, alongside two domestic cups and the Division 1 Féminine title.

Internationally, Greenwood made her debut for England in 2014 and has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Lionesses at six different major tournaments.

That includes helping her nation win the 2022 and 2025 European Championships and reach the 2023 World Cup final.

Having initially played predominantly as a left-back in her first year at City, Greenwood soon transitioned into one of the finest central defenders in the game.

She won her first trophy with the Club in November 2020 when City retained the FA Cup at Wembley, before helping her side to Continental Cup glory with victory over Chelsea in March 2022.

Such is Greenwood’s consistency that she’s been included in the PFA WSL Team of the Year in three of her five full seasons at City, in 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24.

Ahead of the 2024/25 season, she was also appointed Club captain following the retirement of Steph Houghton.
