Bio
Japan international Aoba Fujino became City’s third summer signing of 2024 – joining the Club from Tokyo Verdy Beleza.
The young forward enjoyed a prolific three years in her former employers’ first-team after progressing through their youth academy.
Due to her scintillating performances in the WE League – she was named the division’s Most Valuable Player in 2021/22 and 2022/23 as well as being named in the WE League Best XI in 2023.
Fujino’s exciting displays have also translated onto the international stage where she helped Japan’s Under-20s to the FIFA U20 World Cup final in 2022.
She was then included Nadeshiko’s squad for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and she scored in a 2-0 group win over Costa Rica – making her the youngest scorer for Japan across their men’s and women’s team.
A blisteringly quick attacker with a calmness in front of goal, Aoba is constantly a threat when creating and finishing chances.
Having made her competitive debut for City in our UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifier against Paris FC in September 2024, Fujino’s first goal for the Club would follow one month later against St Polten.
She finished her first season at the Joie Stadium with four goals and nine assists, including finding the net in the League Cup final.
