OPPOSING MANAGER - EDDIE HOWE

Howe has a wonderful reputation in English football management after his great work to get Bournemouth promoted from the lower leagues into the Premier League and establish their position in the country’s top flight.

Howe then moved to Tyneside in November 2021 and guided the Magpies back to UEFA Champions League football with a fourth-placed finish in the league in 2022/23.

That was followed up with seventh and fifth in the proceeding two campaigns, along with a first piece of silverware as they lifted the Carabao Cup last season, their first domestic trophy since 1955.

Energy, aggression, high pressing and plenty of pace on the flanks are all key in Howe’s set up at Newcastle, which is usually a 4-3-3 formation.

DANGER MEN

Anthony Gordon - despite not being in the best goalscoring form this season - is the main threat for the Magpies.

The winger is fighting for a spot in the England squad for this summer’s World Cup and scored away to Liverpool recently, as well as assisting the winner against Tottenham Hotspur in their last league game.

Harvey Barnes is the other one to keep a close eye on.

The winger can drift in and out of games, but when he has momentum and confidence he can be deadly, as seen in the reverse fixture earlier this season at St James’ Park where he grabbed a brace to see us lose 2-1.

Additionally, towering defender Malick Thiaw has been a wonderful signing and is a massive threat from set-pieces, already claiming four league goals this term, so we’ll need to keep a close eye on him too.

PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW

Pep Guardiola has stressed City’s focus is on Newcastle this weekend and not the ebb and flow of the Premier League table.

Arsenal drew 2-2 away at Wolves on Wednesday, meaning City would go just two points behind the Gunners with victory over the Magpies on Saturday.

With a home clash with Mikel Arteta’s men to come in April, Guardiola was asked whether his team now had confidence that adding another trophy to the cabinet was possible.

The boss insisted there was a long way to go and his immediate thoughts were on Eddie Howe’s team this weekend.

“I didn’t speak one second about that with my players,” he told media at his pre-match press conference.

“Yesterday and the day before it’s just Newcastle, Newcastle and Newcastle.

“I didn’t talk about the table, I didn’t talk about the position or something like that. I couldn’t care less.

“It’s 12 games left, it is an eternity, so many things is going to happen. That is the only truth I have.”

PREVIOUS MEETING

Our last home Premier League encounter with Newcastle ended in a 4-0 victory for Pep’s side, as Omar Marmoush scored a hat-trick added to by a goal from James McAtee.

In the reverse fixture this season, we fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat at St James’ Park.

We also faced Howe’s side twice in the Carabao Cup semi-final this season, claiming a 2-0 win in Tyneside and then a 3-1 victory at the Etihad to cruise into the final with a 5-1 aggregate victory.

LAST TIME OUT

We stormed to a 3-0 victory over Fulham in our last league game, thanks to goals from Antoine Semenyo, Nico O’Reilly and Erling Haaland.

We then faced Salford in the FA Cup fourth round and claimed a 2-0 win to advance into the fifth round of the competition.

As for Newcastle, they claimed an impressive 2-1 away win over Spurs last time out.

They were also in FA Cup fourth round action against Aston Villa in which they staged a 3-1 comeback against the 10-man outfit after Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot was sent off.
