YOUNG LIONESS...
Exciting defender Naomi Layzell was a member of City’s new signing contingent in the summer of 2024.
Arriving from Bristol City, the 20-year-old has experience beyond her age after progressing through the Vixens’ youth ranks into their first-team.
Her first senior appearance came against London Bees, helping her former employers maintain a clean sheet in a 4-0 Continental Cup win in October 2020.
It wouldn’t be long until she made her Barclays Women’s Super League debut when she featured, ironically, against City at the Joie Stadium where the hosts ran out 8-1 winners.
A baptism of fire to the top-flight, perhaps, which she has used as fuel to cement her status as one of English football’s most promising defensive talents.
After helping Bristol City back to the Barclays Women’s Super League and to the Championship title in 2022/23 – she was then voted as the club’s Young Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season at the end of 2023/24.
Layzell was undoubtedly the positive in a disappointing term for the Vixens thanks to her brilliant individual displays.
These also earnt recognition on the international stage. After being a mainstay in England’s various youth teams – she was invite to train with Lionesses’ senior team in their summer camp of 2024.
A tough tackling defender who possesses the intelligence and ability on the ball, Layzell appears the ideal recruit to join our stellar backline department.
