On Everton’s playing style: “The last two games against Liverpool and Leeds were so demanding - the high pressing and intensity from both teams. We handled it well. I don’t know what Everton is going to do.

“If they defend deep we have to know how to handle that, the transition from Pickford is so fast. The quality is there - we have a feeling Everton have exceptional, really good players.

“In this period of the calendar it can be a problem. Just three days after the game against Leeds, which was so demanding. We have to be ready again.”

On Dominic Calvert-Lewin: “Unfortunately for him and Everton he was injured in the last period, he can’t bring consistency to play, play, play and that is a problem for a player, but he is absolutely a dangerous player.”

The boss revealed that the fixture will come too soon for Julian Alvarez’s return to the fold, with the World Cup winner expected after the new year.

LAST TIME OUT

Everton were beaten 2-1 at home by a late Wolves goal on Boxing Day.

City ran out 3-1 winners over Leeds United at Elland Road on Wednesday, with an Erling Haaland brace and Rodrigo finish earning the three points.
