Opposing MANAGER - gary caldwell
A Scottish former professional footballer, he played for Newcastle United, Darlington, Coventry City, Derby County, Hibernian, Celtic, and Wigan Athletic.
As an international, he earned a place in the Scottish FA International Roll of Honour after gaining 55 caps.
After retirement in 2015, he turned to coaching, starting out at Wigan Athletic, guiding them to the League One title and promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.
Caldwell joined Exeter City in October 2022, taking charge of his first game against Derby County and finished the 2022/23 season in 14th place in League One and 13th in both 2023/24 and 2024/25.
Danger men
The Grecians come into the fixture on a three game unbeaten run in League One with a 4-0 victory last time out in the FA Cup to spur them on too.
Jack Aitchison scored twice in their meeting with Wycombe Wanderers before Akeel Higgins and Jayden Wareham added the late gloss to make it a memorable afternoon.
And there’s no doubt City will have to keep an eye on Wareham who has a total of 11 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions this season, making him their top goalscorer.
PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW
The City boss has confirmed Antoine Semenyo will be involved in Saturday’s game.
“He’ll be selected,” Guardiola said, speaking at his pre-match press conference.
“I don’t know if he’ll start but he’ll be selected for sure.”
He also revealed that Oscar Bobb remains injured and has not trained since Brentford.
The clash also sees the opportunity for more of our Academy players to gain first team experience.
“Since I arrived here I’ve always had good players from the academy, some with us some shining in the PL,” Guardiola said.
“I’m really pleased that the academy is always really good.”
Last time out
City were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton at the Etihad on Wednesday evening.
Erling Haaland had given the Blues a half-time lead when he sent Bart Verbruggen the wrong way from the spot after Jeremy Doku had been brought down.
It was the Norwegian’s 150th City goal in just 173rd appearance for the Club.
However, the visitors were determined throughout and levelled the scores through a fine finish from Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma.
Despite our best efforts, that’s how it remained at full time.
